That's pretty small for eight weeks old, looks more like five weeks to me. The pic is pretty dark but I would guess male, it will be much easier to tell when it is a little older.
Sorry my brother said it was 8 weeks old because he counted the month the peahen went missing . So the peachick is about four or five weeks old. And now the silkie won't let me try to touch her or the peachick, but the chick is a WHOLE LOT better than the other day! The silkie, and peachick is now outside in there own little coop. She has no interests in her friends or her mate (a white male silkie named Snowy) who pace the small isolation coop they are in. She is more concerned about her adopted peachick. Meanwhile the peachick continues try every time you open there pen to escape and flee to it's mother in the pen 25 yards away. The good news is the chick has a fighting chance of living a full and happy!
I would like to know if the chick may go back to it's original mother. She calls for it and paces her pen waiting for it to reply. Should I give her the peachick back or keep it with my silkie?
You would just have to try and see. If your concern is predators then you may as well leave things as they are and raise the chick in the pen. If you are not concerned about the safety of the chick let it back in with the hen and see if she has forgotten about the chick or will take it back. If she ignores the chick put it back with the silky or keep it penned with the others.
Ok I think I have everything figured out , I appreciate everything you all have done to help me! I will keep updating about the chick. And if I have anymore questions I will be sure to ask you guys.
