I got rid of every chicken that I thought was a rooster. I only kept the hens and one chosen roo......NOW I have an Orpington which was supposed to be a hen, is crowing! The Araucana roo that I chose hasn't made a peep! I have Orpington, Wyandotte and Araucanas. My question is will they mature at different times (crow, lay eggs), Or is it more likely my Araucana I was sure is a roo is probably a pullet? This Araucana is red in the face and is signifigantly larger than the other Araucanas. the Orpingtons are HUGE compared to everyone else! I am wondering if he is just quiet because the Orpington is dominant?

Next time I will wait until they crow or lay an egg to give away any extra roos!

Photos would help, but some roosters are relatively quiet and some hens do crow. So, it is POSSIBLE our first ID effort was right. Chances are that you were off on at least one of the birds.

I can take and post some photos...Give me a few minutes. Thanks!

This is the Orpington that is crowing

Pic of the above Orpington and the other Orpington that is not crowing.

Pic of my Araucana roo ?????

This is what I believe without much doubt is an Araucana hen for comparison

Any opinions are appreciated...THANKS!

Thank You for the input....dang! I was hoping at least would be a pullet! Donrae...you think my black Araucana (first 2 araucana pics) is a hen or are you speaking if the last pic the black/brown with white flecks in the feathers as being a hen? If you think the black Araucana is a hen please fill me in on why....I thought it was a roo.....Gosh I better not give up my day job to be a chicken sexer!!!

I live all the way in Georgia! If you were closer I would give them to you! They are both so far easy going...they haven't pecked me or shown any aggressive behavior. I only have 5 hens so I definetly cant have 3 roos so they will HAVE to go!
