My Peas (Pics Inside)

Hello everyone,

Here is a pic of my Peas: Miranda, Monet (hens), Skylar, Carmen (cocks) and Billy Ray my poor RG boy. (RIP) I think they are all IB, but not 100%.

I hatched the two boys in June and thought Carmen was a girl at first. Surprise he is not!

I bought the hens from a lady about a month ago, who has way too many birds and in small enclosures. I felt like the ones I picked were being saved

Anyhow, the smallest had really torn up feathers. I thought it was because she was getting picked on, poor nutrition or a mixture of both, but they are still pretty rough. Any ideas? I will try to get close ups of her in a bit.

Congrats on getting into the peafowl and welcome to the boards. What happened to the RGP? Looks like a she or a juvenile male not colored out yet? How is the Yellow golden doing? (Swifty?) For the one being picked on, ruffled feathers mean stress. Check for sinus issues also for stressed birds. If they become sick, there are some great experts here that can give you advice based on symptoms. They would probably love a vitamin supplement after the stress you described from small confinement at the previous owners (use a water soluble supplement). Also worm them with Safeguard goat wormer 3cc/gal 3-4 days then repeat 2-3 wks later. Enclosure looks nice. If in cold weather, use wider perches so they can cover their toes. If in warm weather then great!!! Looks like you'll be enjoying these for a while. Congrats again.

I am in Tucson. How cold is cold enough to do wider perches?

Both the pheasants are males. Swifty is doing great, starting to get his feathers. They were all hatched at the same time.

I am fostering a Doberman. She is the sweetest dog, and was saved from a high kill shelter the day she was to be put down. Anyhow, I had the dogs inside and the birds were out. Hubby forgot and let her out. I was out there within a few minutes, but she already had him. He was not afraid of dogs, as he was raised with them and ours do not go after them. We have a resident Doberman as well. I was really upset about it. He was born with a crooked neck and could not walk. I fed him by hand for almost 2 weeks, all of the sudden his neck started to straighten out and was normal.

I did keep them separate at first and wormed them. I want to say it is goat wormer, but I cannot think of the name at the moment. They have been here a bit over a month and together about two weeks.

That makes sense about the stress on the little one. That woman has a horrible set up and I hated to even give her money in support of her operation, but at the same time I felt bad leaving them there. She does seem to be getting a little better, but her feathers are really thin. She has hardly any under her wings.
