I have a former show silkie that broker her leg about 4 years ago. She couldnt be shown anymore so the previous owner (very cool lady) needed to find her a new home. So I took her and she's been wonderful.

Since she can't walk that well, she spends a lot of time sitting. Unfortunately, because of her poofy butt her poop sticks to her feathers and then she ends up with a massive poop clot. I keep washing it off but Id like to find a way to prevent this. Ive tried giving her low things to stand on like piece of a 2x4 but her balance isn't the greatest so she doesn't sit on it.

Any advise would be great!

That sounds tough--can you get a picture of her?
You could try treating her like a chick pasty butt--trim the feathers around, and then put vaseline on her butt, so at least the poop won't stick so much. Have you tried any chicken orthopedics?

Chicken orthopedics? I guess Ive never heard of that, how does it work?

I thought about trimming the feathers but Id feel so bad seeing as shes such a gorgeous chicken. Plus Im afraid of getting cutting too low in the quick. But if thats the only option, im willing to do it.

I do have pictures but they're on my phone so I need to transfer them and then I'll post
