This afternoon when I was out with my Pekins, I noticed that Nibbles was limping around their enclosure. I have a disabled drake named Splish and at first I thought it was him but them I realized that the drake had a bright orange beak and when I looked again, I realized it was our oldest drake, Nibbles. He doesn't like to be picked up, you know, his male ego and all so I called my husband to come home and bring him in the house so I could look at his foot. I was scared that it was bumblefoot.

After looking at both his feet, I noticed on the heel of his right foot he had 3 "slices". I cleaned his foot up and they were actually slivers. I got the wood out of his foot, cleaned it up really well, applied Neosporin on it, but a guaze patch on it then wrapped the back part of his foot up in vet wrap. The second my husband put him on the floor, no more limping! He was good as new!

Of course he wasn't happy to be in the house, he's not at all like the geese who take every opportunity to walk in any open door. He was having a stroke to go back outside with his mate, Lucy. He was over at the screen door beating on it with his beak. Hubby brought him back outside. He'll bring him back in before he puts them to bed so I can change his bandage again.

Oh yea Wifezilla, you can see in the last pic he was NOT happy about having messy feathers. LOL The geese travel their feathery butts in the house every opportunity they can. The ducks think the geese are crazy.

Nibbles was so happy to be back outside with Lucy, Lela, Lulu, Splish & Splash. I think he got the splinters when he was sliding down the ramp to the pool. Hubby got rid of that ramp and got them a fresh piece and sanded it down really well to make sure there were no splinters. Poor Nibby. He's such a good boy. And a good patient, too!

Horsefeathers, my husband loves these critters as much as I do. Right now he's in the woods (35 acres) trying to find an escaped guinea. My grandson opened the gate and she just realized she can fly and fly she did. Right into the woods. My husband doesn't want her to be dinner for anyone so he's trying to get her to come back.

Nibbles is lucky to have such a caring person ready to clean and bandage his foot. Is so hard when they dont know we are actualy trying to help them...

Im sure he feels a lot better now, and well done to you for your wonderful bandaging skills. It must not be easy to work with a ducks foot.
