This afternoon when I was out with my Pekins, I noticed that Nibbles was limping around their enclosure. I have a disabled drake named Splish and at first I thought it was him but them I realized that the drake had a bright orange beak and when I looked again, I realized it was our oldest drake, Nibbles. He doesn't like to be picked up, you know, his male ego and all so I called my husband to come home and bring him in the house so I could look at his foot. I was scared that it was bumblefoot.
After looking at both his feet, I noticed on the heel of his right foot he had 3 "slices". I cleaned his foot up and they were actually slivers. I got the wood out of his foot, cleaned it up really well, applied Neosporin on it, but a guaze patch on it then wrapped the back part of his foot up in vet wrap. The second my husband put him on the floor, no more limping! He was good as new!
Of course he wasn't happy to be in the house, he's not at all like the geese who take every opportunity to walk in any open door. He was having a stroke to go back outside with his mate, Lucy. He was over at the screen door beating on it with his beak. Hubby brought him back outside. He'll bring him back in before he puts them to bed so I can change his bandage again.
