Anybody that could send me free duck eggs? my pekin duck is acting out in the water without her mate now that he died... nobody here has ducks again until spring...

I would put an ad on craigslist looking for a drake.......seems like people always have extra boys to get rid of.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm know what you are going through, my male runner, Willie, just lost his mate on 8/29 and he's trying to integrate into my Wyandotte chicken flock. He just seems so lost without her. I'm in the same boat desperately looking for a female,so far no luck, but hopefully the universe will be providin Willie a new mate soon.
best of luck to you
Terri

Hi Tarheel,

I wish you lived closer. I am in Florida. I have a Muscovy that is going broody again. She just started sitting last night. I have 5 Pekin eggs under her as well as a couple of her own eggs. I am expecting some little yellow fluffy butts in approx. a month. I would be happy to give you a couple of them if you were closer. Any chance of coming to Florida for vacation? LOL I live on the Space Coast, not far from Orlando. I guess I could try shipping you some eggs but I have never done that before and have no idea what is involved. I have two Pekin girls and a Pekin drake that are mated. They only just started laying again this week, as both were broody but were not successful hatching, as they seemed to not have any idea of when to stay on the nest, etc. They really tried, but I don't know. Three tried to hatch but I found them kicked out of the nest and dead. It was really sad. So, I decided they are no longer allowed to try. I gave some eggs to a proven Muscovy hen now, instead. Cocoa definitely knows what she is doing and is a great mama. I know the Pekin eggs are good though. We have an almost 4 month old that was hatched in an incubator at school, from the Pekin eggs. And, that was with an incubator that didn't work well at all. It wouldn't turn right, the humidity was off, the temp kept going up and down, etc. but this little guy hatched anyway. He was the only one, but it was amazing that he hatched, due to all the problems. Anyway, the eggs should be fertile and I know if anyone can hatch them, Cocoa can.

Try posting a wanted ad in farm and garden, on your local craigslist. You may find a mate there.

Kathy
