i am going to build a pen that is 8 foot wide 12 feet long and 6 foot high. how many quail will this hold? if you dont mind can you post pictures of how you build yours please. thanks

Well, a quail needs at least 1 square foot per bird. The more space the better, so in an 8 * 12, you could hold 96 quail, however, if I were you, I would keep around 50-60, because the more space, the more lively birds you'd have.

the pen will sit on the ground unless i find another one but i will habve hardware cloth burried under it. and what would they rather lay thier eggs in?

There's some really great pics in the sticky at the top of this section. Most people seem to put their quail cages off the ground to make for easier cleaning. I'm new to quail (my coturnix are about six weeks old, and have just started laying. I put a little nest area (actually an overturned box with a doorway cut out), but they seem to just lay where ever the urge takes them.
