I have 17 wheaten penedesenca eggs in the incubator. One hatched in the early ours of the morning but there are no signs of the others. Today is day 21 so I still have hope but I'm worried. The one little chick is lonely and keeps calling. I have 3 week old bantam cochin chicks so she wont be lonely for long but it will still be at least a week before I dare introducing her to them. I can't wait to see what happens with the other eggs! On a side note if anyone has really young chicks born this week I might buy one so she has a companion. I want to wait and see what happens first... the wait is killing me! If anyone else has penedesencas let me know I would like to see who else has them.

Picco,
I am so glad to hear that your chicks are beginning to hatch. I was looking the other day to see if there was post from you on your eggs. I hope the others hatch as well!!

My Bantam eggs that we set at the same time don't look like they are going to hatch. We opened one today that did not look like it had a peep when we candled it, it looked like scrambled egg. There is another almost clear egg. Four eggs are really dark with a good clear area but we can't see any movement. And they should be piping by now. How long should we let them go before we give up on them?

I'm giving mine about 4 days before I give up on them. I didn't have any real temp fluctuations to speak of, but if you did-it could affect the hatch date. Low temps will prolong the hatch. Hope you see some babies soon!

So they could still be ok with a prolonged hatch from low temp? And shouldn't I be able to see some movement? Sure would be nice if some of them were ok.

You won't necessarily be able to see movement. I figure if you do, it's just a bonus- I didn't see movement at all in any of mine that hatched.

How long over the 21 days you should let them go is hard to say. I've read somewhere here where there was a 28 day hatcher that is growing and doing fine. I doubt I'll leave mine for that long. I'm on day 23 now and still have not seen or heard anything from the rest of mine (7 hatched)- I'm really thinking I'll candle a few tomorrow or the next day and see what I can tell from that.

I candled them last night. One of the dark ones is only dark in half the egg where the other 3 are dark 3/4 of the egg. Could it be cause its dead and is shrinking?
