My Pet Chicken / Gabbard Farms Hatching Eggs BEWARE!!!

Wow, that sounds terrible! I am surprised though, I did order from MPC a year or so ago, it was my first time ordering hatching eggs. The two Wyandotte eggs arrived in nice condition, and one of them made it all the way to hatching. The hen was perfectly healthy, seemed fine. I did unfortunantly lose her to a bear last year. :(

A bear? Oh my! I'm sorry that happened. We only have racoons and coyotes.

MPC is My Pet Chicken. They aren't a hatchery but a kind of chicken broker who goes through various hatcheries to get their chicks and eggs. I have heard that people have great success with their day old chicks, and sometimes with hatching eggs as long as they don't come from Gabbard Farms.

Thank you. We had 14 birds and after two attacks within a week we had only four or so left. :( After that we put a LOT of hotwire up.

With the birds I've received from them, I have found them to be of terrible quality with many inbred specimens. I got 3 Blue Ameraucana chicks, all of varying sizes, one about bantam size, one average, and one abnormally wide near the lower portions, almost Orpington-like. I also ordered Hamburgs and Golden Campines, both of which had crooked toes and crooked beaks, a sure tell-tale sign if inbreeding.

I do not find the information you have relayed to us surprising. They are a commercial hatchery focused on quantity, and not a whole lot more.

It seems to me that MPC needs to monitor their breeders/hatcheries who they get chicks from, because some people get good results and some really bad results -depending on where the chicks originated from. MPC never even responded to my two emails, so that'll tell you they don't have a priority on customer service.

I wasn't impressed w/ them at all. Out of 30 eggs, I hatched out 8.. Although it was my first time, I was very diligent in doing everything perfectly. I so wanted rare breeds but this hatch rate was depressing. I do not even think half of them were fertile and/or mixed breeds. $200 for 8 chicks, that honestly are not as pretty or look anything like I expected. I had better luck off EBAY!! I

I also had very poor hatch rate with eggs from
MPC $100 for 3 eggs from three breeds and only I breed showed any development and hatchedt two eggs. If it was my hatching ability then non would have developed at all. Email themandwas told to bad

I too bought eggs from Gabbard Farms NONE hatched while eggs I bought from another place had a good hatch. I scratched Gabbards from my list of buyers. Anyone thinking about buying from them should do the same. It will save you dollars and lots of disappointment. Wish I had done more research.
