Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do. 
My 9 chicks came from My Pet Chicken...EEs (4), Welsummers (2) and Silkies (3). Was going to start with fewer than nine but had to increase the number of chicks because of where they were being shipped to...Southeastern North Carolina. I ordered them in July so to have time to build my coop and enclosed yard. They arrived a week ago Wednesday. All were healthy and full of pazzazz. One EE seems a bit slow to develop...eating and drinking well but obviously smaller than the others. She I am keeping an eagle eye on.
