just ordered 3 black australorp chicks from my pet chicken!
due June 15th! way too long to wait!'
(strangely enough, for such a common breed, i can't find anyone who sells them in VA!)

anyone have pictures of the packing job from MPC?? i'd love to see how they package the little babies!

i've heard they don't ever use packing peanuts... true or false?

(i like the fact that they probably don't use packing peanuts, since it's convenient to be able to order the correct amount, but i wouldn't mind a surprise chick or two! hahaha

I waited almost 3 months for my MPC order!

I got 8 chicks total, but one died a few days after arrival - she arrived in poor shape, and the other of the same breed was also undersized, so I think they had a bad GLW hatch. My two black australorps were in wonderful health though, and have been growing up beautifully.

They arrived in a small box, maybe 12 X 8 inches and about 8 inches tall. The box has a straw-type liner that was around all sides except the top. There was a blob of green gel in the bottom that they could eat for hydration, and a heat pack across the middle of the floor, like the kind that you use to warm your hands.

3Peeps posted a pic of the box she got on this page:

They do sometimes use packing peanuts, but I doubt you'll get any in warm weather.

The other little one is the smartest chicken in the bunch, and the most people-friendly. I was worried she would do poorly, being undersized, but she's been a little dynamo. So it wasn't all heartbreak. I really like this little chick.

If your black australorps from MPC are anything like mine, you'll be very happy with them. They were really robust from day one.
