My pet peeve with ducks...

After giving a bunch away today I guess I will be baking a lot in the next 2 days to get rid of them!!!

I find myself doing a lot of baking, too! Also, when I accumulate two or three dozen, I'll boil a dozen. My three girls love them as an afternoon snack.

X2!

I get egg cartons from the food stand at the local flea market. I guess they sell a lot of breakfast sandwiches. Who knew? They probably give me a dozen a week.....and I give them a dozen 'personal use' eggs once in awhile. Try asking at local diners and such. They're just going to throw them away, they might save them for you.

I just lost some chickens to a fox who hatched me some chicks... and I bought some chicks that same week. The fox killed my favorite broody hen and 7 chicks! I have no broody left to hatch with (and no incubator).

However, I'm taking some jam up to the farmers market this weekend. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to charge for 1/2 dz duck eggs? They are pekin and muscovy eggs. I can sell them as free range and fertile

Try to get the Flats I don't remember if they hold 36 or 48 for bulK storage. If not at the feed store check a local breakfast place they can't be bothered with messing with cartons during the breakfast rush. Fast food is a waste of time since they buy their eggs shelled and in bulk. Anybody that doesn't bring their cartons back for a refill get charged a $0.50 deposit the second time or gets their eggs in a bag! Unless you are really soaking these people you have to get the point across that you can't afford to buy cartons at retail to hold eggs that you are selling at wholesale prices.

Where are you going (also NC in your area of the state) If you are going to Raleigh at the State Fairgrounds I have heard that the supply has driven down the price to around $5/ Dozen. No reports from the smaller farmer's Markets. You may have to cut your price but the good news is that many regulars have already been educated about duck eggs.

Thanks, I can not compete in Raleigh where I used to shop and live, but there is a small farmers market here in Fuquay and all of a sudden Cary thinks our market is all the rage. So I guess I will price according to anyone else there saturday with the duck eggs. Worse case, no one has them and I got with $4-$5 for 1/2 dz. I'm truly going to sell Jelly and maybe strawberries as I have 4 lbs so far I picked yesterday and the day before.

Our main plan again is jelly now... and in 1-2 years we'll be going with apples and pears and peaches during those months. Waiting to see how well our raspberries do, because we're planning on digging up some canes this year and starting a 3 tier bed on a hillside to grow all berries with.
