A PM which I sent to someone was intercepted by some individual who inserted an insulting, disrespectful, and impatient phrase.

Of course, the very kind recipient assumed that that odd phrase was from me, and seems to have been (not unduly) irritated.

Just all of you beware lest you be thus 'shafted' by anonymous hijackers of PMs

sadly yours,

You need to let the mods know...I think in this format it would be quite near impossible to hijack a PM between sender and recipient. Let the admin and mods know.

Dude, no way! I'll be careful.

Well, the fact is:

An entire phrase ended up on my recipients end which I DID NOT PUT THERE?

And this person has become rightly upset with me--as it can only be assumed that I was the author of the insulting phrase.

I have been very saddened before at observing how total strangers (i.e. forum users) can say mean and unkind things to one another--have big arguments...........PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN KNOW OR WHO HAVE NEVER SEEN EACH OTHER!

Deliver me from this form of (ab)use of the forum.

I have been on the recieving end of abuse and have chosen not to fight back, but rather try to be patient and understanding with human weakness.

To reiterate: Only admins (and honestly only me) have access to PMs and I very rarely look at them. The only times I do is during reports of serious problems, spam, etc.

99.999% of the times we see stuff like this it is due to errors on the user side and nothing malicious. That said, we take all reports like this very seriously.

Please PM me the details of the message (time, date, etc.) and exactly what happened and we'll look into it.

Honestly, if someone were to try to hijack / hack the site and actually get in, we'd expect a lot more damage than just a few edited PMs.

Again, forward me as much of the info as possible via PM or via email: [email protected] and we'll investigate.
