Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do. 
This is my Polish hen, Milly:
She's a complete whack job! Flighty, panics at every little thing, runs in and out of each and every nest box a dozen times, rearranges the nesting material and then lays her egg on the floor behind the water fount! LOL but we love her anyway!
