I should have done some better research before I put my two button quail in the aviary.

One of my budgies went a bit psycho and killed both quail.

So, for future reference, Coturnix are ok in an aviary, but budgies are not, apparently?

Thanks... one of the little guys had already made it through so much! My 4-yr old took him from the brooder and took him to cuddle with him in his bed. He almost died from the cold and from apparently being a bit squished. But I got him back to health, only to have this happen.

A lot of people keep buttons in with budgies, I guess yours just didn't like them. The coturnix are okay probably because they are bigger than the budgies are. If you try again, make sure there is something in there for the buttons to hide in.

Maybe I just have an evil budgie. The other ones left the quail alone - only my blue female went for them. The quail have several little hide-outs set up for them, but this was their first day in the aviary, so they must not have gotten comfortable yet.

I might try again, but with a known quail-killer in there, I might not.

Maybe keep the buttons in a cage inside the aviary for a while, so the budgies can get used to them first?
There are people that keep them together with no problems.

One of the people that bought some from me at the Indiana chickenstock keeps hers with her cockatiel.

Does not help but I know how you feel....I made a mistake and ended up feeding one of my Buttons to the cat.

Ermmm... gotta ask... how? I am so sorry!

I was in a hurry (and sick with a cold yesterday) trying to finish a new brooder for the buttons so I could put chicks in the big brooder.
I caught one really cute nice yellow chick and put her in the new pen. I decided I need to move more then one at a time and started looking for a button sized container. My friend Jan asked "Did I have something in the new cage?" As I looked up I caught a glimpse of a gray streak.

I put a temporary top on the cage with a fairly large hinged door for now. Large enough for a small sized cat unluckily.
