I got a momma and her 9 babies yesterday and momma was being very protective. So I thought the best thing to do is put them in a cage in the house and let her do her thing. I didn't want to mess with them and stress them out. So this afternoon I realize one baby is much smaller and not running around like the others. When I reached in to try to get it the mom started throwing a fit and jumping all over the poor lil thing. I finally got it out and offered it some food and water. It drank but wouldn't eat and kept cheeping so I figured it was cold and I should put it back with momma til I figured out what to do. Fast forward 5 hours. I finally got around to mashing up some cooked egg and got poly vi sol. I go to get the poor lil thing out and after being pecked quite a few times found it under the mom. It looked like it was dead. I picked it up and it's still alive but completely limp. I put a few dropes of the poly vi sol in it's beak but I don't think the poor lil thing will make it more than a couple hours if it went downhill that fast. Any suggestions? I read another thread where someone said they fed their chick raw yolk with a syringe. I've also heard sugar water. Please help!

Well it didn't even take a half an hour. I can't believe it. I would've went and got the poly vi sol and tried it hours ago but we had to go to the in-laws for mothers day. I really didn't think it was in that bad of shape. I've raised chicks from day olds and never lost one. But then again I've never had baby chicks in with their momma either. Well on the bright side all the rest seem to be doing well and I have the vitamins on hand so if there ever is a need for it, I don't have to run.
