Hi, I'm a new chicken owner, I got these little guys as chicks a year ago. 1 rooster 7 hens.

Recently I've noticed a couple hens have bare spots on their backs, the one in the picture is the worst. I've read and thoroughly checked for pests, including on the chickens and in their coop to no avail. When I see the rooster mount them, his feet are right where the bare spots are. I've put coconut oil on to help some. I read about chicken saddles (aprons) has anyone had any luck with those? Any suggestions? Thank you, fellow chicken lovers!

Sounds like your rooster is over mating them, I would try aprons or get more hens for your rooster

Did the coconut oil help?
Did you get aprons? Did they help?

The aprons do seem to be helping, I got one thay goes around it's breast and under wing, seems to stay on well too. I take it off once in a while so she can dust bath. They can still fly, as their wings are out still. Although me other hens backs are starting to look like that too. Sadly I think it's time to cull the rooster.

I had to buy chicken saddles or aprons off of Amazon because my rooster was doing the same thing to my hens they work really well. The chickens don’t like them at first, but they get used to them and it takes a little bit for the feathers to grow back so be patient.

The down under chicken saddles work the best so I have found
