Hi,, Yes, I kinda thought about that but I am told this happens when they see something that looks like blood or is blood then they go crazy.. very strange.. the picture above is him just when I was taking the pics of her "Zsa Zsa" ,, and he Jumps up on top of the nesting boxes and just crows and crows like crazy.. nerve... I see you are in Canada,, nice to hear from you.. thanks I will get something for her..
 
It's true chickens are cannabalistic creatures.. Good thing you showed up when you did. I find roosters are often the culprits for pulling feathers from head and neck from trying to balance while mating and hens are more butt pickers. I'm on the west coast.. A few minutes walk from the ocean. :)
 
Me again,, is there somethings I should always have on hand ? I will always have the items you all suggested on hand.. Thank you all for your lovely help, I am feeling so much better,





sad for her but knowing she should be ok is just wonderful... I just don't know how they will do for the winter all cooped up, I just can't stand it for them.. so I visit a lot and put branches, stumps in the coop etc. again thanks everyone..

Just thought I would let you know my silkie is doing real well just will be featherless for a year I hear... we found one of my Seabrights plucking the feathers on my rooster and another brown Silkie... so she is separated lucky I have the room for her and she can see the others so in spring she will be aloud to go out with the others .. she is doing a number on all the birds and i was told to do this.. right?
 
Just in case you might be interested ,, My little silkie is doing so good... her head seems like it is clean and healing well.. she has calmed down and lets me see her more.. but we noticed one of my seabrights plucking feathers from the rooster and others and another silkie but brown one.. so my brother in law who got me into loving chicken life and lives just a couple lots away took her .. she must be happy with the rooster she is locked up with because she is laying eggs like crazy.. but I think I should take her back and put her in a separate area, they all can see each other and in the spring she can go back with the others.. good idea bad idea????
 
If multiple birds are plucking feathers you may want to look at their diet and make sure they are getting enough protein. Also make sure that all of your birds have enough room in the coop. Diet and overcrowding are the biggest causes of plucking and bullying. You can wait until everyone is healed and the reintroduce and see how it goes. If it is just one bully then you want to give the rest of the flock a chance to establish a new pecking order and hope they keep the bully in line when that bird comes back. Good luck!!
 
Thanks, is it true some are just feather pluckers because they are bored,,as it is winter here in Manitoba and cold so they are in for the next many months,, I have 17 chickens and 1 Rooster and their area is at least 10X12 with some extra areas 3X3 and branches to perch on a good sized roosting bar and my Rabbit they can see too, also I am there all the time with my dog ... if it is the food .. I give them a mix diet that I buy from a farmer that my brother in law buys from,, it isn't ground right up but it isn't pellets.. I give them oatmeal every day now,, Kale they always have had all day long...grapes, sunflower seed shelled only... watermelon , any fruit as my rabbit gets this stuff too so it is easy to have... what am I missing as I sure am new to this and don't want to go wrong on this...
