My Prediction

Quote: Not on purpose, lol. Hard a nasty storm come through here that brought lots of rain, then wind, followed by freezing temps. Caught us with or pants down. On top of that, the rain brought all the nasty earthworms to the surface and I've been trying to keep my youngest peas alive.

I had something odd happen this morning. After morning feeding, I was hand feeding peanuts in the IB grow out pen mainly to observe a late hatch hen that is looking off. She doesn't have any outward signs of illness like swelling, weeping eyes or nostril, coughing or anything at all. Just standing around shivering and head pulled back. I had decided to bring her in for a little TLC and heat lamp time when I noticed an early hatch hen that had a little swelling in her sinus. I thought that would make some company for the little one and brought her in for a shot of Baytril.

After breakfast we went out to administer shots and the swelling was completely gone, no indication of puffiness at all.

I have taken a wait and see attitude sometimes and things like that will sometimes go away in a day or two without intervention, but boy, that was quick.

Could they have been stung by bees or bitten by fire ants?

Ok, mother nature interference, (throw flag), delay of game, five day penalty, set the date on the 18th, we've got third and seven to go.

Very sad day for me... One of the young boys was looking a little iffy last night, and I thought about bringing him in, but didn't because he had a crop full of food, so I figured he was okay enough to stay out, Well, I was wrong, he just died in my arms.

Oh Kathy, I feel for you, it hurts so bad when they pass in your arms. My consolation is that you were there and it didn't have to pass by alone.
