My pullet turned Roo

I had two like that. I don't know why I couldn't see - when it was staring me right in the face!

Ooooh, yes, I know this feeling thanks to this squirt! I was so sure she was a pullet. She had comb and wattle development matching the other pullets and no real warning signs of cockerel-hood. I nursed her back to health when she had some issues with her mouth and couldn't eat on her own. Fed her by hand twice daily. Tracked her weight until she was steadily gaining and recovering because she finally could eat on her own. Then all of the sudden he sprouted saddle feathers, and that was that. :( I would have kept him around, but he was attacking the hens when they wouldn't respond to his courting attempts, so he had to go.

Fortunately, I have the opposite happen most of the time--I'm sure I have a cockerel and it turns out to be a pullet. So, happy surprises, I guess! I can pretty reliably identify the sex of other people's birds, but I stink at telling my own birds, apparently. :p
