my pullet was wheezing now can't stand and holds her head upside down what to do?

If the others are doing fine then I would just try to keep her cool and plenty of water and maybe try some treats from the co-op if they stock them. And remember it won't do your chickens any good if you collapse in the process! Take care of yourself. We are praying for you guys.

This doesn't sound like Marek's to me. So, breath a sigh of relief. It does sound like:

1. A vitamin deficiency. Poly vi sol, without iron, is an infant vitamin that you can find at most stores with a vitamin section. Give her .25mls daily plus 200 ius of vitamin E twice daily.

2. With all the moisture and humidity, could she have gotten into some moldy feed? Look up botulism symptoms on here and see if they match.

FYI...The Marek's vaccine does not prevent a chicken from getting Marek's. It only prevents the formation of tumors that are associated with the disease. Also, it is only 90% effective. I do believe that the Coccidia vaccine doesn't always prevent infection. Especially to strains that aren't covered by the vaccine.

With the wheezing, I would also look up Newcastle disease. This disease can cause these symptoms, also.

thanks so much.I'm fine got some rest , this morning trying to give her yogurt with a little egg . still giving same water w/elects and she does seem more alert today. but can't hold her head up i still hold her and try to keep it steady. water is still w/dropper .

I HAVE CHECKED ALL FEED ,IT SEEMS FINE. I WAS FEEDING THEM ALL CHICK STARTER AND TREATS WERE EXTRA CHERRY TOMATOES OUT OF MY GARDEN, AND ONLY TINY PIECES OF BREAD. THOUGHT THOSE WERE GOOD FOR THEM. SOME ONE MENTIONED VIT B AND I HAVE LIQUID B12 WAS GOING TO GIVE A TINY DROP ,IS THAT OK. I HAVE LOOKED UP NEWCASTLE AND THAT ALSO SCARES ME . I'M AFRAID FOR THE REST OF MY FLOCK. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO IF IT IS THAT.

I am not sure if there is a test for Newcastle. Maybe you could try to find your state poultry lab, try calling your local government extension office, and asking them if there is a test that will tell you. Marek's can only be diagnosed on necropsy. You can give the vitamin b.

You have done pretty much what you can do. This sounds like a respiratory disease and there are many to learn about--Mycoplasma G., Infectious bronchitis (I.B.), and coryza are some of the common ones. Neucastles I believe is rare, but the others are more common. Some respiratory diseases can cause these other symptoms, so you might want to google "common respiratory diseases in chickens" and read a bit to find your chicken's symptoms. Many of these are chronic diseases and can come back, plus infect any new birds you get. These are viruses, so antibiotics like Tylan don't help unless there are secondary bacterial infections. Be careful not to spread what your sick bird has to your others although they may already have been exposed.

I THINK THE TYLAN SHOTS HAS HELPED SOME WITH THE YOGURT AND EGG, SHE SEEMS A LITTLE STRONGER. SHE IS TRYING TO STAND BUT HER HEAD IS STILL CURLED UPSIDE DOWN, AND MOST FOOD AND WATER HAS BEEN OUT OF A SPOON OR DROPPER .I CAN'T LEAVE IT IN BOX ,AFRAID SHE WILL ROLL IN IT.EVEN THOUGH TREMORS ARE LESS OFTEN SHE STILL HAS THEM. MY SON IS NOW ONLY ONE TO GO OUT TO YARD WITH REST OF FLOCK AND I TAKE CARE OF HER . SINCE THIS IS A HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND EVERY ONE IS TRYING TO CLEAN UP AND REGROUP FROM STORM I WILL NOT FIND ANY LOCAL HELP UNTIL TUESDAY IF THEN. I GUESS ALL I CAN DO NOW IS PRAY MY FLOCK WILL NOT BE AFFECTED.
