i dont understand, tried everything.
every batch of quial i have bought die. first batch i had about 1month. i bought 4 batches since then and each one only lasted 2-7days..we are heartbroken. we have spent all our time and energy into these birds, not to mention the money.we have new cages, even cleaned them with powerwasher, changed food, bedding, water. they seem fine one minute and not the next. one batch of quail showed one leg pulling up, then died. next batch lasted only 2 days and they seemed fine one minute and the next dead with just some feathers missing and some their necks looked broke. at that time there didnt seem to be any cats or pretators. we just bought 2 batches, japaneze quial and texas a&m japaneze quial..started dying yesterday after having them less than a week. some looked fine after they died, others had what looked like wounds weeping. but the wounds werent there 20 minutes prior. every batch we get die, we are frustrated and sad.
Please help if anyone has ANY idea on what i am supposed to do. I would greatly appreciate it.

sorry cant help much but if all the quail were housed in the cage outside (even the new babies) i would suspect predators could be a hawk or owl messing with them at night and has them flushing and killing there self. i had similar problem with button quail i couldnt figure why they were flushing only at night and were boinking there head on the roof of the cage but after months of thinking i think it was the fires i had every night in my yard that frighten them although i will never know because i ended up getting rid of them. also if you are buying from the same breeder, there breeder birds could be in poor health which interns gives sick babies. just some ideas hope you figure out the problem soon though.

thank you for replying, just got up, 3 more dead. no chickens with the birds. yes i have fires in the yard at night but not last night and lost 3 more. i thought preditor too, so we made sure we encosed the cages with another layer of very small fencing...but they were dying during the day while we were in the yard keeping good eye on them. even kept our dog out by them so no cats could get near them.

bought them at 3months old. no other birds in the cages prior to or during.

thank you for replying, my first response must not have went thru. 3months old, 3 more dead this morning, cant figure it out. no other birds in with them.

How tall is the cage? They could be jumping up into the top breaking their necks. What was in the cage before? When you powerwashed did you use any kind of soap, bleach,or disinfectant? If so,you have to rinse it off and let it dry before putting birds into it.

brand new cages, only used water and then let them dry for a week. do you know if quail's heart are very frail? what would it take for a quail to have a heart attack. checked one of the dead birds and it is either their hearts or lungs..no belly or wound problems..dont know what could be making them have a heart attack though.
