On day 17 and 18 coturnix quail eggs in lock down for hatching. Don't see any sign until today, can't wait.

First one hatched at 1:35AM. My daughter and I stay awake to see the moment. It's a wonderful moment and I can't understand how can God pack this little bird in it's shell.

It's amazing isn't it? :) They are packed so tight in that tiny little shell!

Yes, so tight. I have 7 hatched, 6 pipped.

This is home made incubator and it depends on my house temperature. When it's hot, it goes up and when air conditioning is turned on, it goes down. I have 90 as the lowest temp and one morning, I work up and saw it was 112 and thought they were all dead. I am glad the turn out rate is great even of the temp spikes.

10 hatched, 2 died in shell. still have 6 eggs, 2 pipped.

14 hatched, 2 eggs don't have any sign, I will give them another day. 14 out of initial 20 eggs with all the temp fluctuations, it's way more than I expected.

Thanks. The 2 remain eggs were no good and I discarded them. They died. 70% is not bad for home made incubator for the first time.

Today, my quails are 10 days old. They are big enough to chow gender and to my surprise, all 14 are female. How can this happen?
