My quails are fighting recently!

I have 8 female and 1 male Japanese quails about 7 months old. They grew up together and was getting along fine. However a few weeks ago they started fighting badly. Now every day several females are chasing and pecking the male nonstop. The poor guy has to hide in the nesting area and is too afraid to come out for food or water. What's going on? Should I get rid of the male?

Do they have enough room?

If you don't need/want fertile eggs than it would probably be easiest to get rid of the male.
