Ditto on the security ideas - next year I plan to rear another three or four ducklings, so I'm making mental notes on how to get it done. I have actually thought of something like a rabbit hutch that I can keep indoors (we have a spare room with good ventilation) for ducklings. We have a long list of predators - including raccoons, so I think I'll keep the little ones indoors at night till they get some size on them.
By the way, I use locks with keys and sturdy hasps on all gates and doors, and at night run the two strands of equine electric tape around their shelter. I run electric wire around their pen at night even when they're not in there to discourage anyone messing around in there. One nightmare I have is a small predator getting into their daypen overnight, then attacking when I let them out of their night shelter. I look around before letting them out in the morning.
