My Red Orp Project

Many of you know my Meg, who is the daughter of the deep red RIR and exhibition size Buff Orpingtons. She is a deep flaming red. She has the Orp shape, head, size and white legs. I think that unless her sire was one of the really dark breeder quality RIR's, she might not have the wonderful color she does.

Speckled, is Meg more like a RIR or and orp in temperment? I love the bossy curiosity of the RIRs, but if that nasty hen bites me again, I'm biting back.

Meg's personality is sweet and friendly. I'd say she leans much more toward the Orps in every way, but if you've had dark breeder quality RIRs, those are awesome birds. Mine are very sweet, calm and non-aggressive.

Wish you luck with your project, Jayare. Post some more photos as things progress.

Thanks for all the good and positive comments everyone.

These are the 1st generation as I have said before and there is still a long way to go till I get that Orp body style and that Red color to come in at the same time. These just happen to be the 1st ones I have hatched out of this mix and I am planning on hatching out some more this spring and summer and doing much more work with them and breeding them back to a Buff Orp Roo. This PROJECT will take some time (about 6 years) and I have only just begun. I need to take some better pics sometime of these so you all can see more of their body and shape from a better angle because they do look better than these pics show in my opinion. They still need work but I gotta start from somewhere.

Wish me luck.

Jayare
