I purchased 3 Silkie chicks and the owner gave me two chicks that needed help! In the box at the store there were Silkies and mixed bantams.

The first one I think is a Silver Sebright. All of its toes on one foot curled under and it couldn't straighten them out.
So...
I saw this on here and decided to try it:
I drew a pattern of the bottom of its foot and cut it out of a "Breathe Right" nose strips!! LOL!!! It has some light plastic in it. Then I taped it to the bottom of the chick's foot and wrapped around each toe and the foot with bandaid tape.
How long should I leave it on there?

This chick looks like a Silkie but it is tiner than the 3 I paid for. They are the smae age! It has a badly dislocated joint in its leg. I got it back in place but it wouldn't stay. I don't know if there are broken bones in there or not.
Again, I used "Breathe Right" nasal strips for the light wt plastic and made a splint. I then used the tape from a bandaid to wrap it. Hope this works. What do you think and how long should it stay???

Thanks!!

Check periodically on the first chick's foot bandage - it seldom takes more than 2 full days before it should straighten out.

Unfortunately, a slipped tendon, if that is the issue with chick #2, is not repairable and that chick should be put down. I'm sorry to be the bearer of this news...I have had more than one that I tried to rehab, and one that I took to an avian veterinarian who told me that even after surgical intervention, it is only about a 20% chance of survival. But - the GOOD news is that chick #1 should recover just fine! Bless you for taking them in!

TY...I will wait a while before deciding for or against putting the 2nd chick down. If it will heal, how long should I wait to see? Then I will take the splint off to see if it will stay in the proper location. It was ambulating by hopping on one foot with the injured one held somewhat up and to the side.
