NEED ADVICE!! In the past couple of weeks two of our chickens have died unexpectedly! They all appear to be fine. Healthy on the exterior, normal poop, normal behavior, laying and eating normally. The eggs still look and taste fine. Should we throw out what we've gathered the past few weeks? Is the rest of the flock (three girls left) going to make it or should we just "get rid of them?" They're all Rhode Island Reds. If you're familiar with chickens please respond! No hate.

How old/young are they?
When was the last time you wormed them?
Have you check them for blood sucking mites?

Thanks for the quick response!! Last time they were wormed was when we got them at 6 weeks July 2016. We are first time chicken owners. I will definitely check them in the morning for any mites.

Checking at nite is better.
The mites don't come out to feed on then until night.
Grab a flash light and check them in the dark.

Thank you so much! I will definitely check them tomorrow night and keep you posted. Should I trust the eggs they have been laying? They seem ok.

How many do you have total?
What size coop?
What has your weather been like?
Are you sure they ALL are eating and drinking well, or could these "two" have not been?

Started with 5. Two have died in the past couple weeks so now down to three. The first one that died was totally unexpected. The one we found dead today has been getting bullied quite some time. She knows to wait her turn to eat and typically doesn't hang out with the other 4 (now 3). I was reading and maybe they were bullying her because she was sick and therefor she got the other one sick that died a week or two ago? The coop is pretty large. Probably 5 ft by 5 ft. Living in Vermont so nice weather between 50-80 on a normal day. In the mornings and evenings we watch them eat and drink, and sometimes during the day we'll just go outside to observe them.
