My Rhode Island White is unusually heavy and sits down a lot - is she ok?

I think u are right Fred, I've just read the threads called Broiler Chickens as Pets on BYC and it all looks too familiar. They both have single combs. I'm so upset for my snowy! She already has a very bare belly and I had assumed she was in molt. The other one is more active and lighter and I'm putting them both on a limited diet from tomorrow morning away from the flock and just see how they go. They're so calm and friendly, its so wrong what the meat industry does to such lovely animals!

I bought my broiler chicks as 2 roosters and 5 pullets...turned out to be 3 roos. I had other intentions with the broilers, but turned out I just can't eat them. My chickens will be for egg production and reproducing...not eating. I suggest rehoming your broiler if she makes it. It is very sad what chickens go through to put food on the table, but that being said...I would much rather consume a chicken that I raised and culled humanely than to go to the grocery store and buy one in a bag. It is all very sad when an owner gets attached to a chicken that was produced to become food....
