He was roosting with the girls for awhile, but I htink they pick on him so he's moved across the coop to the nests, and he poops in them >.< any ideas on how to get him to go back?

to stop him going in there you could shut it of every night with some plywood or something but all my hens used to sleep in the nest box as they were battery the chick then started sleeping with the others and following by example and they were all fine

Is your rooster new to the flock?
Is he younger and/or smaller than the girls?
How many birds and how much roost space do you have(in feet)?

They need about a foot of roost length per bird to get settled.
The roost should be at least a foot from the wall, especially for roosters with large sickle feathers.

My experience was that I had some pullets that the older birds wouldn't let roost with them so the pullets wanted to roost in the nests. I put up another roost just a couple inches lower than the main roost and began removing the pullets from the nests after dark and putting them on their roost. Did that for a couple nights, then started going in at dusk and poking them in butt if they got into the nests(I have 'outside the coop' access to my nests boxes so this was easy). Pretty soon all I had to do was walk in and they would leave the nest and go to the roost so they didn't get poked in the butt. Took about 3 weeks total before they got in the habit of always roosting on the roosts instead of in the nests.

I would have the same questions, younger or new roo. Usually a mature established roo wont have an issue but def make sure there is enough roost space. Maybe build a roost on the other side so he can roost there as opposed to the nest boxes.

If you like him he will eventually grow up and be fine, you dont necessarily have to replace him if you dont want to.

He is younger, one of the hens hatched him

Ill figure out how to add another roost. Thank you!
Good Idea....and it may just take some time for him to grow up....old hens schooling a young cockerel can be a good thing.

I think they are getting another roost(perch), not another rooster ;-)
