My Roos is going to attack me!

And ditto holding. I did that with the black australorp pullets that came here with a bit of attitude. They got pushy with me. I picked them up and held them. They got tamer. It's kind of odd really. Actually evil birds would end up stew.

I've only had chickens for a couple of years and never really had much problems with them trying to attack till recently. I've had geese chase me though. My RIR use to just walk sideways with his head down like he was going to attack but never did. My white leghorn was to skiddish that he just ran off. This year I hatched out a RIR/white leghorn mix rooster. I pick him up all the time and pet him. I had to downsize on my roosters since I had them and others from a order this year. We decided to get rid of the two older roos and just use him for our RIR and leghorn hens since we just use them for eggs. Also the RIR roo attacked him and had his comb bleeding which he did the same thing to the leghorn the winter before. A couple days after I got rid of the two big roos one of our little cousins said he tried to come after him. I didn't think much of it cause I pick him up all the time and never had a problem with him. Well the next day I fed the chickens and was looking for eggs and felt something peck the side of my leg three times and turned and he tried to jump up and I used my leg to block him. I chased him around and picked him up and let the other birds eat and made him wait. Haven't had anymore problems with him attacking me but he does peck the other birds so I do pick him up still and make him wait. I also got the male goose to stop attacking me by turning my back and when he would run up I'd turn around and give him a push with my shoe to show that I'm stronger and after a few days he stopped. Had to do it once in a while though but at least I wasn't as afraid anymore. Also grabbing him and holding him still worked too. I spoiled him so it shocked me that he attack. I just got some new turkeys a few days ago and I'm hoping the tom won't attack since he is a 1-2 yr. old blue slate. Don't know how to handle a turkey coming after me if he does.

I make sure that my children and I regularly chase, catch and carry around our two roosters, just so nobody forgets their place.

I had the same problem when I was young about 10. My Mother told me to pick up a board and hit him.So I did. He rolled over backwards and was kicking his feet really bad. My Dad came runnning up and said what in the word did you do. I said Mom told me to do it!!!!! That darn Banty Rooster never bothered me again. You just have to show them who is boss.

It also helps if while carrying them around you tug on their wattles and make them "talk". Make sure the hens see you doing this! I do it to Zeus from time to time. By the intensity of the stink eye he gives me you can tell he's humiliated. You can almost hear the hens giggling at him.

One of my roosters did that too. He is pretty and I didnt want to kill him. The local "old timers" around here said it was good to have a protective rooster on the farm but.... they said show him who is really boss of the yard!

I took a fly swatter after him. Each time he came near me and fluffed his feathers I swatted him. When he backed off, I stepped forward and swatted him again. I repeated this until he ran away.

It worked, he leaves me alone. He got swatted a few times and pretty hard too.

Thanks everybody! I did it! I toted Frank Feather Foot around until he loved me! And it worked! I am the queen of my flock and I am no longer scared of 3lbs of feathers!!!!!!!
