My rooster is a perv!

My remaining healthy pullets are now barely over 12 weeks old and I saw my rooster mate with one of them last night. She was not very cooperative, and there were feathers all over afterwards. Do you think I should be concerned?

Nah, probably not.....was probably just a dominance mount, mounting is not always about sex.

I saw the same thing this week...mature rooster grabbing at 13 week old pullets but not really pursuing to aggressively. He mounted the one who submitted but did not touch vents. He was just showing them who was boss.

I'm pretty sure they did touch vents, or at least he tried his best to. I guess it's probably ok though... Size-wise, she is almost the size of some of my adult hens. She doesn't look mature though... no comb to speak of, yet. So it seems weird that he is doing this, but I'm glad to know that other roosters do this too sometimes!

Well I hate to say this, but concerning the sick pullet.. I had a sick one and she wasn't getting any better so I had to "put her down" so to speak. My husband said it was the best thing to do, because she was sick and there was nothing that could be done. If she is sick you might want to think about that. I know it sounds terrible and I know its hard, I cried for 4 days after having to do that.. I felt so bad and I hated myself because of it. But, its better then letting your others get sick or whatever. Just a thought, I know it sounds bad but yah.
