Hw is only a year old, so this was his first year 'crowing' or cocka doodling or whatever you call it. It was loud, it was annoying, he sounded like he was going through puberty... but then he stopped. Not just stopped, he litterally can't. He can make the same small sounds like a hen would, but nothing else. Strange.

So our unexperienced thoughts were, well we had made a dust bath inside the barn, and maybe he got some in his throat or lungs. Now there is a large window that is always open, and we have the doors open during the day. They are in a large barn, so have lots of room. But... what do you think? Any remidies? Will he get better?

There are diseases that can cause a rooster to lose his voice. Is he showing any other signs of illness? Respiratory, diarrhea, pale comb, anything?

Sometimes a rooster losing his crow is an early sign of a respiratory ailment coming on him. Try this experiment...chase him around the yard so he gets to breathing really heavy. Then catch him and hold him up to your ear and see if you can hear him wheezing or whistling coming from his lungs.

From what I understand, others have had this problem with their roosters and have success with using Tylan on them. He could also have gape worms blocking the trachea which could effect his crowing. Has he been wormed recently?

Well the weirdest thing is.... it came back! Yes he is back to his crowing ways. I have no idea what it was that did it to him. Like I've said on here before, we don't have access to many types of treatment. So we are very happy that he is back.

We did remove the dust bath from inside, and they're just going to have to go back to the outdoor bath, or destroying my flower garden. It was too 'dusty' in the barn anyways.

Thanks so much for your help all the same.

Thanks guys for all your support!!!
