My pet rooster Michael has been behaving like he is my cats keeper. He edges up to Puddy and does the wing dance. He has tired to sneak up on her and stand on her back but she will have none of that( not what I have observed). He wants to sleep next to her and he makes cooing sounds. He is so kind. I have two pullets coming in a little over a week and I have no clue yet on how to keep them as he is a house chicken but that’s a different thread I suppose.
He is an Australorpe, a yearling given to me but hand Raised so I hear by a man that couldn’t keep him because of crowing in an HOA. Michael stares pathetically at the pullets across the street so I figure it’s time he has his own. I don’t want him mingling with a different flock because I have no clue if they are healthy or not.
When the pullets come, I should keep them in a cage I guess until they get some size? I don’t want Michael to hurt them accidentally.
My question is, have any of you folks witnessed a rooster being amorous toward a cat?

Mine has not. My cats doesn't get close to our Rooster but they can see him and the Hens from our enclosed deck. I heard that Rooster's hormones usually settle down a bit after a couple of years. Mine probably won't because he doesn't like my hubby. So glad you yours sounds like a nice and not mean Rooster. I love Australorps. I have three Hens and other breeds.

I'm sure someone else will be along to help you.

How absolutely funny! I was reading this out loud and my partner said "He's not just affectionate, he's HORNY!" I must agree. I can't help you much because all of our chickens are babies...we don't know yet who is male and who is female. There are others here with more experience though, they'll doubtless help. However, I will watch with great interest if you let us know how it all works out! :pop
