My EE roo started crowing a couple of weeks ago. Before it was just in the morning and evening. Now it seems like it's all day long. I think my wife secretly wants to strangle it. Mainly, I am worried it will upset the neighbors. We're technically not zoned for "livestock". I don't want to lose my 6 pullets for one rooster. This is probably a dumb question, but is there any way to quiet him down?

This question is one of the most famous questions asked here.
No. There is no way to shut him up! If you are not zoned for livestock then you might want to get rid of him. Like you said if someone complains you may be risking your pullets.

whydoes this always come up?, seriously

not meaning to be mean here, so please dont take it as such, but I see 2-3 of these posts every WEEK.

hens are LOUD, ROOSTERS are LOUDER

there is NO way to keep them from being LOUD

rehome the rooster if you don't want to lose your chickens, you won't have any babies then, but thats the price to pay

Oh I know how to keep him quiet!
I call it a grill. YOu start by taking him out back and end with taking him off the grill and putting him on your plate.
MMMMM

I tried something with my rooster who is loud as heck. When he crows, to me that usually means he wants out of the run. So I just let him, and only him, out. It usually quiets him down and most of the time he just stands in front of the gate like a guard

Not sure if that will apply to you but that is something I have figured out. Mine also crows whenever a bunch of people are around or if people go inside.

Does that work for noisy children as well? I have a large grill.

roosters crow day and night and all times in between. IDK whats so hard to understand about that. I personally love hearing my rooster crow....but im just weird i guess

No you aren't weird because I love hearing mine too! In fact, we try to get ours to have "crow offs" We have 2 black giants, a Golden Polish, a CM and a buff cochin all learning to crow and we love it!!But we are lucky and live in the country. Its a good thing too because we look really silly standing in the "Cockburn Glen" and crowing!!

I live in a small historic town, chickens not aloud! So for the past 9 or so years that I have had chickens I but the roos inside my shed at night and cover them with a very heavy black piece of material. (not so heavy that its dangerous in the heat) I have found that my roos do not crow till I let them out (after 9 AM) I also visit my neighbors often to be sure that they are not upset with the crows. I have yet to have a neighbor complain. Almost all say it reminds them of childhood or makes them smile to know they are not so far removed from the country life. Of course my neighbors are all hearing impaired (Just kidding)
