my rooster's tail has been mangled by the hens

My hens have severely damaged my rooster's backside. There is a photo on this website of a hen who endured a similar injury. Flesh has been literally chewed up, and the tail bone is exposed. I washed the area with Ivory Liquid, and have been treating it was Betadine daily. The rooster is now separated from the hens, and seems to be doing fine - healthy appetite and normal behavior. It has been two days since the injury. I'd appreciate any suggestions from people who have gone through this as to whether I should be applying a topical ointment, or is the Betadine enough?
