as stated in the title, my runner has water coming out of his mouth. this wouldn’t be concerning if it was a little bit, but there’s been quite a bit, twice of what could fit in his beak just from what i saw. he’s also been standing really really straight up, which i know runners stand up more, but it seemed strange. should i be worried ??

Welcome to BYC.

Could you answer a few questions?

What color was the liquid coming out of his mouth? Was it mucousy, or clear-like? Have you fed them any treats recently, if yes, what? When did this start occurring? Did the water come out of his mouth, when you picked him up, or did he do this when he was alone? Do you offer free-choice feed, or do you only offer feed a few times a day? Is he acting normal otherwise?

clear as far as i could see, they’ve only had grass, purina pellets, some peas and some basil leaves. i went to check on them for the night and he had water coming out of his mouth but the other duck hasn’t had any coming out. i usually give them food for the day and they can get it but he ate way too much too fast and almost choked so i took the bowl out and spread some food out in the grass so he would slow down a little bit and drink some water. other than the water and the really upright standing he’s been doing fine. he only started doing them recently

To be clear, you offer food only once, or do they have access to food all day? What was the case today?

they have access all day, my bad. i fill up a bowl big enough for their food for the whole day and give it to them in the morning and they have it all day and night, and i’ll give them some basil and or peas when im doing my lunch or done with school. they also have access to grass in their pen and when i let them out in a run. i gave them their whole bowl today but he ate it really fast without water so i took about half of the food out of the bowl and spread it in the grass in their pen and took the rest in the bowl out until they got close to done with that food, then gave them the rest

What it sounds like is going on to me, is there was a long-ish period, where he didn't have any food, so when food was provided he over-scrounged on it, which just like us, we can sometimes vomit a little bit afterward if we eat too much in a short period of time. My suggestion would be to make sure feed is provided 24/7, and see if that helps.

Is the bowl empty by the time you fill it back up? Because a duck that has a full stomach, is not going to scrounge on food that fast.

" i gave them their whole bowl today but he ate it really fast"

As far as his stance, that may be him trying to adjust his crop. Let us know if it's still there by morning.
