Hi all, Well it all started when I bought 2 Sebright hens for a dear friend of mine...... 1 silver 1 gold, anyway on the way home the silver laid an egg!!!! I took 1 look at this egg and new I had to try baking it LOL. Anyway Elle said that I should keep her for a while and see if she laid anymore....... So I did and she did. The first 5 she laid I put under a pekin, candled them 5 days later and to my delight they were all fertile!!!!! (these are the chicks in the pics, with the last one hatching now as it was put under 2 days later) Anyway gave 4 eggs to a friend and all of those are fertile too!!!! She has laid another 7 and you wouldn't beleive it ALL FERTILE, she hasen't seen a rooster for over a month!!!!!

As for the rails.... my friend slashes overgrown properties for some extra income.......... anyway ran over a nest in the dense grass 5 eggs in total..... 1 smashed, 1 badly cracked and 3 good, they left the eggs without heat for 3 days. Jaquie rang on the third day (friends wife) and told me the story, she thought that the eggs were fresh laid (not started inc) because the egg that had smashed was just white and yolk, so I went round there and checked them out! I decided to crack open the cracked egg as it had no chance of survival, and to my surprise there was an embriyo about a week in.... it was dead

anyway decided to put the other 3 in the bator....... well they all hatched..... I can't beleive it....... Anyway this is my story..... enjoy the pics.

These are the rails.... funny little mokeys they are

i see why it's call a buff-banded rail. very cute. i had no idea one could get rail eggs anywhere. i am sure we cannot here in the states.

These eggs were rescued not bought...... you can have these in captivity with a permit here, these guys will eventually be released.
