I have a psycho SIL... really. She is outspoken, rude and - well - crazy! My MIL was down for a long weekend and SIL made what she calls her 'world famous pulled pork'. MIL asked for the recipe and my SIL said "no.... I don't think I want to give the recipe away. Then I wouldn't be the only one making really good pulled pork." My MIL then told her that she would no longer share any of her recipes (since SIL is calling her all the time for them) and SIL was absolutely incredulous about it. SIL eventually said that she would email the recipe to MIL and to me - even though I know I can make better pulled pork

. So SIL asked MIL to babysit Monday and MIL asked AGAIN for the recipe b/c she was leaving that night to go home... well, you guessed it - SIL said no!

My quest now is to make THE BEST pulled pork ever and invite her over for dinner. She also has a 'world famous chocolate cake' that's not that great, but I'm not even going to go there

Anyone else think that was incrediably rude? Or am I just crazy..?

I've got to agree with you there- that IS rude. People should be able to get over themselves and share their recipes with family, at the very least.

I would consider it rude, but some people are just really selfish with their recipes. I've had a couple of people do that to me recently, and it is really frustrating. My suggestion is to send your MIL a copy of your pulled pork recipe, and leave it at that. Good luck!

I agree! I think recipes are for sharing. That's my point of view anyway. Never understood why people wouldn't share recipes, maybe it's an "I'm better than you" sort of attitude.

I think she's insecure. If she shares the recipe and the other person makes it better then she has to face the fact that she isn't as good as she thinks.

Kinda pitiful really.

I would go to the nearest Smithfield BBQ and buy it. Take it as your own 'secret' recipe, and blow hers out of the water. Unless she beat you to it, lol. She may not have a recipe, she may have directions......to the nearest BBQ joint.

In our family "Secret recipes" are a tradition that is handed down to who ever wants it, we consider it a compliment that something we made was so good that they wanted the recipe. Yes she was rude, but is also probably very insecure about just where she is in your family. If you have a great MIL hang on to her for dear life they are very rare.marrie

I'm glad I'm not the only that thinks it's rude, lol!

Right now I have an 8 lb pork butt in the crock pot. It's been 'rubbed' since last night and I 'rubbed' it again this morning before I put it in. I'll also be making my own bbq sauce. This will be a trial run to see how it tastes.

I've seen SIL make hers - she puts the pork butt int he crockpot and then it looks like she dumps spices (or a packet of spices, lol!) on top, lets it cook for 8 hrs and then adds in a bottle of store-bought bbq sauce. Don't know what's so 'world famous' about that.

Speaking of bbq, we have an awesome bbq & bluegrass festival coming up - maybe I should take her there and have her try some REAL world famous bbq.
