Hi everyone
My red silkie’s eyes are looking v crusty and not opening very much to not at all this morning, she’s hiding out in the coop which is very unlike her and shivering. Am quite worried she won’t be drinking enough whilst she’s in there.
Any thoughts on what the problem is or what I should do? Going to take to vet today hopefully.
Thanks

Yes, she’s been prescribed some antibiotics for a respiratory infection which I’m administering orally with syringe once a day. Which is a hard job, has been a two-person job so far. Whilst the drugs hopefully take affect, are there any recommendations for her in the meantime? She’s a bit off her food still and very light weight. Also is there anyway I can de-crust the skin around her eyes? ❤️

Is her skin crusty on other parts of her body? Saline or eye wash can be applied to eyes, and a warm wet compress held on the eye for a few minutes works well to soften crusty eye drainage to remove it. Petroleum jelly or coconut oil can be good to apply to other crusty skin areas. I wonder while she looks so crusty? You might want to read about favus, a fungal infection of the skin that can cause white chaulky areas on combs, wattles, and the face. In silkies, it appears more grayish. Antifungal creams such as miconazole or clotrimazole are good for favus.
