My silkie eggs are on their way

I had 14 out of 16 silkie eggs hatch three weeks ago, I’ve also been primarily on the hatch along. We ended up selling eight of them and kept six. Among the ones we kept we ended up with a satin must’ve ended up in the batch somehow. She’s really beautiful though and lavender so we’re happy about that!View attachment 2192630

We're gonna have a tough time deciding which ones to keep. We're gonna wait until we can figure out which are pullets/cockerels and plan to keep a few girls and one male. Then we'll look to sell the rest.

Eggs were supposed to be sent out yesterday but went out today instead. No big deal, but my tracking says they won’t be here until Saturday and that’s... upsetting me quite a bit. They turned a 2 day delivery into a 4 day one, and that doesn’t seem like a lot, but I think waiting this extra time could really lower my hatch rate for these eggs.

Don't worry, usually it will still be the 2 day devikvery. I have had that happen with live chicks vefors. I think it's just padding so you can't say they were late if it takes 3 days

We were going to do that too but then I thought, what are we going do with 14 Silkies!? You know you can’t tell the difference between male and female Silkies until they are about five or six months old right?

Makes sense, I can't tell very well from pictures which silkies are hens or roosters, I'll have to watch for crowing and egg-laying. But I think for us figuring out exactly what we have before selling would make raising all 11 of them worth it.

Another forum member said you could actually had them DNA tested! Sounds like a lot of trouble to me but it’s worth it if you don’t want to wait that long I guess.
