My white Silkie has stolen five babies from other mother hens as they have hatched. Three one morning, then one in the afternoon, then, one more in the early evening. The other mothers don't seem to care, but I've never had a hen do this before. She is the world's BEST mother and protects her babies with gusto. These babies were hatched about two weeks ago. Now, another Aracona cross hatched one four days ago and as soon as the baby hopped out of the nest box, the Silkie was there, to gather the baby under her wing, so to speak. She now has six and is as happy as can be. All the babies have bonded and even the tiny one follows her everywhere. Has anyone else ever seen this before?
