Hello! Currently I have a silkie rooster and 1 ex battery hen. I have had the Silkie for a 7 months and have always thought he was too skinny. They always have a trough feeder full of layer pellets, water, and daily snacks (produce and grains mostly with occasional handful of mealworms). He is always eating, although when he finds a nice worm he makes sure the hen gets it. That should be enough right?

When I pick him up, his *chestbone?* is protruding. Is this normal for silkies? If not, what should I do?

Roosters are by nature skinner than hens. They don't need huge fat reserves and don't burn energy egg laying. Unless he's lethargic or sickly I don't think there is anything to worry about. BTW, an all flock food would be better for him than layer, he's not making eggs. I mix the two together since there is no way to feed hens and the rooster seperate.:)

I dont have a photo but I can get one. Yea, he is just fine. He's the boss of the yard. Mayne I'll find some all flock food to mix in. I already have oyster shells for the hen, although I dont think she eats much of it, if any.
