Both parents may of had walnut combs and they could produce a bird with a single comb. A single comb siklie does not have to be the product of an out cross. With this said, you can produce more walnut combed silkies if you cross the single combed bird(s) with silkies that are purebred for the walnut comb genes. A walnut comb is expressed in a bird that carries at least one rose-comb gene and at least one pea-comb gene. There are also genes ( or sections of DNA) that modify the combs in chickens.My silkies have single combs when silkies have walnut combs isn't that weird?
