Goofy babies had their first long-term rain day and they loved it! They ran around their yard bobbing and quacking really fast, they would "duck" their heads like they do in the pond and flap their wings frantically. They had the best time taking "air baths" and seemed to forget that the pond existed. They made mud holes and tugged on long strands of grass which made water splash around. They got so worked up they tried to mate (both girls) backwards! Anyone else's duckies do these things? I'm sure yours do too but it was just so cute seeing mine so excited for the first time!

You made me laugh with your description of the fun time ducks have when it's raining.

My Runners and Buffs love the rain and make mud puddles bigger and seem to love getting wet they even like the hose spray, now my Muscovy's will just stand around with their chest stuck out looking like lawn ornaments when it rains. They wait till it's over to enjoy making mud pies etc.

My Ducks are terrified of the hose, but perhaps they will be more welcoming because of their new found love of the rain. I remember the first time it rained was when they were babies and they froze in fear with their nictitating membrane down and their necks tucked in and their head up. They looked like they saw a ghost, dead silent and still. Oh how they grow so fast!

I can spray my R/B with the hose and they will play like they are nipping the water it is so cute. Now my geese don't care for the hose because I have had to turn it on my gander and drake when they are fighting a few times, but they pay no attention to it when a good fight is going on. Which means I have to break it up and of course it's usually where it's muddy so guess who has the most mud on them?

Ooooh, I have to try a sprinkler! My Ducks never get me too dirty except when they got in their pond for the first time- I was in it too! And they wanting diving and swimming in circles, throwing water everywhere (including all over me) but it was so worth it to get them to trust the pond.
