I am just recently interested in chickens and am still gathering all the information I can about them. I have seen this website and others as well as purchasing some books on the subject. My original reason for studying them is my interest in paleontology and all the information now about chickens actually being dinosaurs or related to them. Some breeds like Malays and Modern Game Fowl have a very obvious similarity to Therapods.

I live in North Auburn, California and plan to attend the poultry fancier shows over the next 3 months to see a lot of examples and learn all I can. I would like to visit a chicken set-up, either ranch or backyard with several specimens. If anybody wants to invite me, I would be very greatful.

Glad you joined us!

HI Kelsie,

Thanks for your welcome. I didn't know they were called coop tours. I will try to find someone locally. I thought some of the farm stores that sell feed and other stuff might have some leads.

Welcome to BYC, I often think Emu's had to have come down from dinosaurs as well. I think some people do not extend invitations to tour their flock because of the threat of introducing disease. I imagine others cannot because they are inspected and must keep certain biosecurity restrictions in order to ship birds to other states.

Morning and welcome to BYC.

x2 on drumstick diva's reply regarding biosecurity. The poultry show sounds like a good way of seeing in person a wide variety of birds and you'll have a chance to talk with some of the owners too. Have fun!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
