When we became vegetarians, I gave my older son the choice. I didn't want to force it on him. He chose to be a vegetarian with us. Both my boys still drink milk from a local organic and humane dairy, and they eat our eggs every day, and they also eat sustainable fish. They get plenty of protein that way, plus all the bean dishes, and many different kinds of grains that are high in protein as well. He wanted to do it not just because of the humane aspect, but because of the GMO feed that most meat animals are fed. They eat ALL different kinds of things that most kids wouldn't touch. How many kids ask for beets or parsnips? I had both of them followed closely by our pediatrician and they are doing just great, and are in fact a lot healthier than most kids their age because of the lack of junk food and fast food, and the many fresh foods we eat.
