@ChickenSmurf, I realize you posted this last month, but we have the same issue, white fuzzy mold growing on the ground from rainy weather. I'm in the N. GA mountains. The chickens rarely mess with it and those who've picked at it have never seemed to have any issues. If you have a lot of mold growing in one area, tilling in some agricultural lime may help.
