Bella, Speckled Sussex, 20 days old. She is the leader of the pack and the most curious of the chickens. Friendly but also flighty. A really good accurate flyer too. Doesn't like to be restrained, but will stay close if she isn't.

Attila the Hen, aka Attila for short. Golden Laced Wyandotte, 20 days old. She hates me but is also very curious about me, so she's conflicted. She yells so angrily if she is picked up. Tends to follow Bella around like a popular girl's mean lackey. Cries incessantly for the flock if separated.

Guin is my Silver Laced English Orpington (28 days old). Guin is an absolute angel and cuddle bug. Guin is the reason I have three more Orpington chicks on order. My favorite of the flock by far. She likes to lap sit (and nap sit). Guin is like a fluffy, not-very-bright baby dinosaur. Easiest chicken to catch.

Black Betty is my Black Jersey Giant, 20 days old. She will tolerate being handled but is still a little skittish of people. She is maturing much more slowly than the other chicks. I have read that is typical of the breed though.

Elvira is my Golden Laced Polish, 20 days old. She is hilarious and scared of people. Hardest chicken to catch, and the smallest. She is bottom of the pecking order and an even better flyer than Bella. She tries to escape the entire time you hold her, and good luck catching her if she gets loose. She is so damned cute, I wish she was more friendly.

And Drogon is my black Orpington barnyard mix, 28 days old, gender uncertain. Drogon does not like to be caught but is tame once you do. Tends to boss the other chickens around because he/she outsizes them all. The only chicken to challenge Bella. Likes to give me the stinkeye in photos but is actually pretty friendly. I am hoping Drogon turns out to be a pullet, otherwise I'll be rehoming him. But Drogon isn't pinking up in the comb or wattles like I'd expect.

Pretty birds! I would love to see your silver orPing town in a few weeks!

Thank you! I am very excited about Guin, silver lace is the one pattern I really wanted in the flock. Silver Sebrights are small/flighty and given Attila's standoffish personality, I'm glad I got a silver laced Orp instead of a silver laced Wyandotte.

Besides that though, her personality is so lovable, I am a definite Orpington convert. My only concern is their heat tolerance because it gets very hot where I live, but my coop is in full shade and they'll have plenty of cool water available all the time.

Update photos! (Except for Betty, who was rehomed)

Bella! Still the leader. Still a pretty girl.

She and Attila are inseparable:

Attila has become much more tame the past few weeks and hops up in my lap or on my shoulder all the time.

Elvira is still a skittish crackpot who stares really hard up at the sky occasionally for no apparent reason. I guess she's the lookout.

She loves Drogon though and follows her around and cuddles with her.

Drogon is my biggest chook so far, as her name suggests. Still scared to be picked up but she's coming around and is calm on your leg/knee while you pet her. Her iridescence (from her lavender Orp daddy maybe?) is nuts. It's hard to catch in photos but it is gorgeous in person. (These photos are in full shade too.)

Guin is my favorite still. Don't tell the others.

I live in west Texas. We don't have the humidity like Alabama, but temps easily in the 90s and 100s. I have 2 Buff orpingtons that are 2 years old now. They do just find in the heat.
