I didn't think hybred-birds couldn't conceive but I now stand corrected.

I think hybrid is loosly used term in the chicken (and even dog) world. A hybrid by definition ususally reffers to two separate species interbreeding (like a lion and a tiger, or a horse and a donkey, or a guinea and a chicken like the bird named miracle here on BYC...her thread is an interesting one if you want to look her up) creating a usually steril offspring (though there have been reports of mules, a cross between a horse and a donkey, that have concieved and given birth but the cases are quite uncommon). In the chicken world, these sex linked "hybrids" are in actuality simply different varieties of chickens (which genetically are still just chickens) with different color genetics that make them sexable at hatch.

Would you say they're significantly similar to White Leghorns?

they are actually part leghorn........ i don't care for the things whatsoever, but you can find them at any TSC.......

The main thing about chicken "hybrids" is that someone used 2 established "breeds" to create a new strain of chicken that may or may not breed true due to the "hybrid" nature. They aren't sterile, you just may not get what you are expecting if you breed them

A Tetra Tint is a cross between a White Leghorn hen & a Rhode Island Red roo.

We have six Tetra Tints, and ours are dollbabies and very smart. We don't put much effort into taming chicks--mostly just work around them enough so they don't freak out on us if we have to handle them--because we have so many. Our Tetra Tints are very sweet and will sit on my arm. I have very few chickens of any kind that will do that.

I'm curious--why the vehement dislike, and why do you say that they are an "Ohio State University mistake?"

I Got 3 from tetra tints TSC March 7 and 3 Isa Brown... The tetra Tints started laying small cream colored eggs at 15-16 weeks and the Isa Browns just started...Large dark brown eggs....My Tints are white with black spots... only 1 or 2 spots per chick...
